Happy World Vegan Day!

Nov 1, 2018

Venus Williams, Tom Brady, Lewis Hamilton. One is a tennis player, one is a NFL player, one is a F1 driver. All are at the top of their game. What do they have in common? They are all on plant based diets.

Whatever your reason for choosing a plant based lifestyle already... you rock! 💜 For those who do eat meat and dairy, read on for some awesome truth bombs about benefits of plant based diet. 💥

Making a difference doesn’t have to be an extreme change in lifestyle. It’s simply about taking small steps 🐾 like enacting meatless mondays in your household or changing to faux leather products or adopting from an animal shelter 🐶🐱🐰 rather than from a pet shop/breeder.

All these steps have direct impact on the health and finances 💸 for you and your family. The big fat 🍒on top is that they also help fight animal cruelty and save the environment.

Plant based diets have proven to: - Improve heart health. 💖 Animal products are high in saturated fat, in contrast to plant-based foods that are either low in fat or contain heart-healthy unsaturated fat.

- Lower risk for cancer. 🍊🍎🍓 Diets higher in fruits and veggies help protect against cancer. Diets high in red meat have also been shown to increase the risk of colon cancer.

- Include plenty of protein. 🥦🥝🍐 With a little planning, it’s easy to get protein from plant-based sources. Legumes (such as beans and lentils), nuts, tofu, and plant based protein powders (such as hemp pea, and rice protein,) are packed with protein and fiber, making them filling and healthy.

- Contribute to the quality of life for animals and towards the health of the environment. 🌎 Lowering your intake of meat and dairy makes a notable environmental impact. If everyone went vegetarian for just one day, the U.S would save 100 billion gallons of water 💧and we would reduce 🌳greenhouse gas emissions by 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide. The need for factory farming and the industrialization of our farming industry could be, at minimum, greatly reduced.

There’s a lot of great resources available for those looking to cut back on meat and dairy. Here’s just a few to get you started: - https://thehumaneleague.org/ - https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/becoming-a-vegetarian - https://www.idausa.org/
